Eligibility

US citizens and permanent residents living abroad at the time of application are eligible to apply for the coverage. If you are a legal resident of the USA (citizens and residents) then you are eligible to apply from an approved state. As per the guidelines the eligible member must be residing outside his/her home country for at least 3 months per year and should be engaged in educational activity. The eligible member may be:
International Students living in an approved state.
International Faculty and Research Scholars in an approved state.
Participants on Optional Practical Training (OPT) living in an approved state.
US Students and Faculty, planning on studying outside of the U.S., applying from either an approved state or from outside of the U.S.
Note: Pre-existing condition waiting period can be eliminated with proof of prior creditable coverage.
