US Student Visa Application Process

US Student Visa Application Process is as follows:
  • You must first have a SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)-generated document (either an I-20 or DS-2019) issued by a U.S. college or university or Department of State-designated sponsor organization.
  • Even if you are not intentioned to stay in the USA for a longer duration, it is good to apply visa much earlier to give time for processing.
  • You must receive the visa qualification document (I-20 or DS-2019) from the institution of university in the USA well in advance.
  • Keep the proof or receipt for the fees paid for SEVIS and visa application form.
  • You must be aware that the U.S. Embassy/Consulate cannot issue a visa more than 120 days before the actual start of the program in America.
  • Keep passport, color photos and other identity proof ready to submit the copies along with the visa application.
US Visas for Non US Students
  • The number of Non US citizens coming to USA for continuing their education has increased in numbers annually.
  • Most Non US citizens who wish to study in USA and reside there for a temporary period must seek the F1 Visa (non immigrant visa).
  • The F1 visa is one of the most common visas to engage in academic studies in the US.
  • There are other visas such as J1 and M1 visa. Those who are going to the USA on educational and cultural exchange programes must seek J1 visa. M1 visa is designed for non academic or vocational study or training at a college or university in the US.
  • You can apply for these visas at the US consulate in your home country. Once the enrollment in American college or institute is confirmed you can submit the visa application at the relevant consulate or embassy office in your home country.
Non US Students Arrival in America
  • The entry of all visitors to the USA including students and exchange visitors is governed by the US immigration law.
  • It collects data that authorize what visitors have to do during their stay in the US. On your plane to the U.S. or when you arrive in the US, you will receive a Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record).
  • Keep the form safely because it contains the official records of your stay in America.
  • After the arrival in the USA your next task is to visit the college or university campus where you are enrolled and report to the concerned department.
  • There will be Office of International Services or the Office of International Education where you have to report immediately.
